🚨WATCH: Public Safety Committee Chair Refuses to Hear from the Public

The Democrat Chair of the Indianapolis City-County Council’s Public Safety Committee, Leroy Robinson, admits to “denying all requests” from community leaders seeking to speak at public safety meetings.

Meaningful progress is impossible when community voices are shut out. Councilor Robinson isn’t looking for solutions to Indy’s public safety crisis, he’s silencing them.

🧨 Mayor Joe Hogsett’s Toxic Work Culture

Investigative reporting by Mirror Indy’s Peter Blanchard revealed just how toxic Mayor Joe Hogsett’s City Hall was—and still is today.

Former city employees describe Hogsett’s leadership style as “degrading and demeaning”, comparing his temperament to that of “Bobby Knight” (but without the results to justify it.)

THE TRUTH: “The Hogsett administration is focused on controlling the public narrative rather than addressing the concerns at the heart of employees’ experiences.” In turn, Mayor Hogsett is prioritizing salvaging what’s left of his personal brand instead of repairing Indianapolis’ crumbling roads and curbing rising crime.

Indianapolis Business Journal: Change in Marion County’s residency requirement still sought despite committee’s vote

Ray Casanova, the chief public defender, lists eliminating the rule among his goals. He says the Marion County Public Defender Agency has five unfilled positions for attorneys who are supposed to go to trial in major felonies, such as sex crimes and murders, and the additional red tape harms the agency’s ability to attract and retain talent to fill those positions.

Lucy Frick, a team lead in the Major Felony Division and an organizer within the agency’s union, said the office is “bleeding good talent” and her division “cannot afford to lose people.” She said she’s seen departures as colleagues, particularly those with families, move out of the county to find more affordable housing or better schools.

“I would really love to see the city make the exception for anyone,” Frick said. “Anyone who works for the city… given housing costs and low city salaries, should be allowed to live where they wish.”
