Indiana Leaders Want a Marion County Prosecutor Who Prosecutes

Tuesday, June 2, 2026

Last week, Carmel Mayor Sue Finkam offered sharp criticism over repeat offenders from Marion County committing crimes in surrounding communities like Carmel.

Mayor Finkam says 57% of those arrested in Carmel and nearly 40% of inmates come from Marion County.

Indiana Leaders Want a Marion County Prosecutor Who Prosecutes

Mayor Finkam, X“This cannot be our new normal. It’s time Marion County does their part and holds criminals accountable.”

Mayor Finkam, WTHR“I don’t know if it’s a prosecutor problem, or a jurist problem, or if it’s a jail problem,  something is definitely not working.”

Candidate for Marion County Prosecutor Philip Foust, X: “Spot on, Mayor @SueFinkam. Unlike Vegas, what happens in Marion County doesn't stay in Marion County! This is not normal. This is not acceptable. But it is the direct result of failed leadership in Marion County. As leaders and law enforcement throughout central Indiana will tell you, when Marion County is soft on crime, families across central Indiana pay the price…”

Senator Todd Young, X: “This is totally unacceptable. I stand with Mayor @SueFinkam. Those who break the law must be held accountable.”

Senator Jim Banks, X: “Ryan Mears puts criminals ahead of law-abiding citizens and law enforcement, putting all of central Indiana at risk. Thankfully, we have leaders like Carmel Mayor @SueFinkam who are tough on crime and proudly back the blue.”

Noblesville Mayor Chris Jensen,  X: “Proud to stand with my friend @SueFinkam. We don’t just need safe cities, we need a safe region.”

FOP President Rick Synder, X“WOW: Mayor of CARMEL (IN) rated #1 place to live in U.S. says Indianapolis is Exporting Crime to her City 57% of those Arrested + 40% of all Jail Inmates are Indy Residents committing crimes in CarmelCarmel Residents Paying the Tab  #SpillingOut #RegionalMatters”

State Representative Andrew Ireland, X: "Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me THIRTY times, it’s time for impeachments. In a deep red state, our capital city should not be a revolving door for repeat offenders. If local officials refuse to enforce the law and protect the public, then they must be removed.”

State Representative Danny Lopez, X: “This is unnerving. Last session I authored HEA1033, which strengthens the accountability & structure of the Marion Co judiciary. What happens in Marion does impact the donuts and vice-versa, & I’m proud our reforms are some of the most meaningful for the Marion Co court in years.”

5 Homicides in Marion County in Less than a Week

Five homicides occurred in our capital city in less than a week, including the death of a young IU graduate, Brett Scrogham, who was shot and killed in a parking lot after attending an Indianapolis Indians game.

This is not normal. This is not acceptable. And Marion County residents have an alternative in candidate for Marion County Prosecutor Philip Foust who says he will “Enforce the law. Seek justice for the victims. Protect the public.”
